First SINGLE webinar on LCA and RED III

Events Webinar

The SINGLE project, is organizing its first online free webinar “Application of the LCA and RED III methodology to assess GHG emissions in the SINGLE ammonia value chain” on Dec 12, 2024 2:30 PM CET

The webinar will deal with understanding how to measure greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is crucial and methodologies dictate how industries meet climate targets, align with policy regulations, and maintain competitiveness in a low-carbon economy. This workshop explores two main methodologies within the context of the SINGLE project: Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Renewable Energy Directive III (RED III).

  • The LCA methodology is a globally established, standardized framework (ISO 14040 and ISO 14044) widely used for assessing the environmental impacts of products and processes. It provides a holistic view of emissions across the entire lifecycle, making it essential for companies seeking comprehensive sustainability strategies.
  • The RED III methodology, developed by the EU, is specifically designed to align industries with the region’s ambitious climate goals. It sets strict thresholds for hydrogen value chain emissions—28.2 g CO₂ eq/MJ or 3.384 kg CO₂ eq/kg—and mandates precise calculations.

This workshop not only highlights the differences between these approaches but also demonstrates a practical application, using the SINGLE ammonia value chain as a case study. Join us to explore the similarities but also fundamental differences presented by these methodologies and their impact on value chains carbon footprint!
